In 1882 established a business (L. Boehmer & Company) in Yokohama, Japan, exporting plants, especially cycads and bonsai, to J.C.Schmidt at the Erfurt nursery in Germany. Boehmer retired in 1895 and sold the business to Albert Unger. The business existed until 1908.
